As you return your vehicle, staff members at the counter must do some testing to ensure it is clean and secure. Before you get here, find out exactly what to expect. This will help make sure you are picked up without problems.
The terms of sale in your contract should tell you everything you need to collect the vehicle. You would be welcome to consult them before you leave your home so that you can remember what to take with you. If you don't have everything you need, the counter staff won't let you get behind the wheel.
Next time when you are going to the airport to get a rental car, you will have to stand in line in front of several counters. Much like the monoliths in "2001: A Space Odyssey," these ATMs can be found in different locations at various times. You can fill up the waiting time by looking at your rental's terms of sale and preparing for any questions you may have.
When you arrive at the counter, here are the four main steps the staff will take you through:
1) Verification of driver's licenses, identity documents, and other documents
Once there, staff will ask to see certain documents.
Driver's license
The driving license of each driver is, of course, required: it proves the identity and address of each and, of course, whether each is able to drive legally. UK drivers may have to request a DVLA check code (this is easily obtained) so that the rental company can check for any violation/point withdrawal. In some countries, every driver will also need an international driving license. Check the terms of sale in your rental agreement.
Passport or identity card
You would likely be required to display your driver's license or passport as additional verification (proof of identification) if your driver's license does not contain a photo.
Proof of address
Staff may ask you for one or two utility bills or bank statements as additional proof of address, especially if you are residing AND rent a car in Islamabad.
Your voucher
If you have reserved your car in advance, your voucher will show that you have already paid for it.
International driving license
Depending on the rental country, foreign drivers may have to purchase an international driver's license before leaving their country. If you need them, don't worry - they're pretty cheap and easy to get.
2) Payment of additional costs and additional services
After staff verifies your documents, they may offer you additional coverage or insurance. It is then for you to see. It's worth checking what's already included in the contract, since (depending on the rental company) your car will most of the time come with basic coverages. It will always be less stressful to take care of your insurance before you leave, so you will know exactly what is covered and what you are missing if need be.
There may also be other fees that the counter staff will charge you, for example, local fees, airport taxes, or the like. These possible costs are necessarily included in the conditions of sale of your vehicle.
At this point, you will also pay for any additional services that you have requested for your trips, such as additional drivers, child seats, or a GPS.
3) Payment of the security deposit on your credit card
Once the staff has totaled all the extra charges on you, it's time to hand over your credit card to pay them, but also to block the security deposit.
The security deposit will be blocked on your credit card. They will not withdraw this amount from your card, but you will not be able to spend it until it is released at the end of the rental.
It is worth checking the credit/overdraft you have before you go.
Some rental companies accept debit cards on-site, but most require a credit card in the primary driver's name. Once again, you will find this information easily in the conditions of sale of your vehicle.
4) Signature of the rental contract
Staff will give you a rental agreement to sign. Don't feel rushed to sign: you are entitled to a good read. This is an important subject because the government is heavily burdened with fuel consumption-related problems, driving restrictions, and mileage event limits in certain territories or countries, which is very interesting. By making a move to a while car, you avoid unpleasant surprises when you return the year.
Once everything is understood and agree to the terms of sale, sign the agreement and hand it over. Staff will then give you the keys and tell you where to find the vehicle.
After all of this, you are all set to go - the road is yours. Have a nice trip!
